What is a menstrual cup and how does it work?

The menstrual cup is a small medical-grade silicone device that is inserted into the vaginal canal to collect menstrual flow. Unlike tampons and pads, the cup does not absorb but collects, making it more hygienic, comfortable, and sustainable. With proper care, it can last over 10 years.

What is the difference between the menstrual cup and the menstrual disc?

The menstrual cup is placed in the vaginal canal and creates a soft seal through suction. The disc, on the other hand, is placed under the cervix, resting on the pelvic bone and does not create suction, making it especially comfortable and allowing for penetrative sex without the risk of leaks. Both can be used for up to 12 hours.

Which size to choose?

For the menstrual cup: size S if you are under 30 years old and have not had vaginal births; size L if you are over 30 years old or have had vaginal births. For the menstrual disc: size S for low cervix and/or light to medium flow; size L for high cervix and/or heavy flow. Do you have questions? Contact us and we will provide personalized assistance.

How do I know if my cup or disc is properly positioned?

You will know it is correctly positioned when you don't feel it. A well-placed cup or disc is completely imperceptible and does not leak. If you feel pressure or discomfort, remove it and try again — with practice, the process becomes very simple.

How do I clean and sterilize my menstrual cup or disc? 

Before using it for the first time and at the end of your cycle, sterilize it by boiling it in water for 2 to 3 minutes or using our sterilizer cup in the microwave for the same time. You can also use an Aletse’s Antibacterial Mist or an electric sterilizer.

During changes, simply rinse it with cold water. For stains or odors, you can use our Aletse’s Neutral Soap or our Cleaning Tablets with bioactive oxygen.

Are Aletse's products safe?

Yes. Our menstrual cups and discs have Guatemalan health registration.They are backed by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration of the United States) and are made from medical-grade silicone, free of latex and BPA. Can I use the menstrual disc during sexual intercourse?

Yes. The Aletse’s menstrual disc does not create a vacuum, making it compatible with penetrative sex without the risk of leaks. This is one of its standout features compared to other menstrual methods. Remember, the menstrual disc does not replace a barrier contraceptive method.

I found it easy to insert and the pull tab is perfect for removing it without any issues. I can't feel it, it doesn't bother me, and I only had leaks because it was a heavy flow day when I had to change it before the 12 hours. Since then, I've learned to change it earlier on those days and it hasn't caused me any problems. It's perfect.

I bought it to enjoy a trip I had planned, and just when my period started, I love swimming and didn't want to miss out just because I was menstruating. I bought the cup, used it about 3 times until I found the right position with no leaks, and I was amazed. In the pool, everything was calm and comfortable, I couldn't feel it. I was really surprised, I recommend this product 😉
