How to insert the menstrual cup?

¿Qué es la copa menstrual y para qué sirve?

What better way than a video to help us understand its use? Here’s a very short explanation in the following video.

And a slightly more extensive explanation in this one:

And of course, I’ll also provide the written and illustrated explanation.

It's important to always remember to wash your hands before handling the menstrual cup, whether to insert it or remove it. We will talk in a future post about the cleaning that should be maintained with reusable intravaginal products, but the important thing when it comes to insertion is: clean hands.

For insertion,

  1. Find a comfortable position.
  2. Locate the fold for your menstrual cup that makes insertion and opening easier.
  3. Insert your menstrual cup. You can use water-based lubricant to help.
  4. Check that the cup is open inside. You can twist it or use a finger to ensure there are no folds.

The maximum continuous use time is 12 hours. If it's your first time using it, we recommend emptying it more frequently.

And how to remove it?

In this case, it's important to note that while the function of the cup and tampon may seem similar in some ways, the method of removal is not the same.

When removing a tampon, we usually pull on the string and tug until it comes out completely. This does not apply to the menstrual cup. The cup, unlike the tampon, collects the flow due to its shape and the vacuum it creates inside to form that seal. That's why to remove it, we need to PRESS the base of the cup. This will allow the air inside the cup to escape and help it 'detach'. The stem of the cup is not meant to be pulled, as doing so may prevent it from coming out.

As you approach the vaginal opening, you can insert a finger to fold the edge of the cup to make removal more comfortable.
Between changes, you can rinse it with just water.
We recommend sterilizing at the beginning of use, at the end, and optionally once a day.
